Burke Mountain and unseasonably warm weather for Vermont

Grandma Tanner (A.K.A. Gram, Grannie, Mom, Bobbi) wanted to decorate the house real nice for Christmas this year. She was going to meet her daughter-in-law and first grandchild for the first time and it looked like everyone would be home for Christmas this year, so she wanted everything to be real nice. She wanted pine boughs and pine cones to make Christmas decorations with.
The Tree
Golden Christmas

There was a real sunny and warm day two weeks before Christmas. Grandpa Tanner (A.K.A. Grampa, Gramps, Step-Dad, Steve) took Grandma for a walk in the woods around their home to look for the things she wanted. This is when they took the picture above.

They wandered the woods and fields and found some pine cones and boughs. They even found a well shaped, small Christmas tree! Grandpa cut down the nice tree and dragged it all the way home. However, Grandma started talking about past Christmases when they got home. Grandpa soon realized that the small tree would not do for this special Christmas. He sighed and said that he would go into town and buy one when Grandma spotted the perfect tree out the living room window! Grandpa was very tired when he went to work that night.

Grandma decided she wanted to do the tree in gold this year. She wanted gold ornaments and gold garland. She also wanted something old fashioned on it too. Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Shawn strung popcorn and cranberries for an old fashioned garland. That weekend they decorated the tree and the house. When they went out for the gold ornaments, they found a Christmas present... just for me!

The stockings were hung over the sofa because they have no fireplace here, but Grandma had lots and lots of candles. (I do wonder how Santa got in though.) It was real pretty and these pictures don't really do the decoration justice. They even put one string of blinking lights on the tree... just for me!
The Living Room

Uncle Shawn went to Massachusetts with Grandpa Joe the next weekend, which was also the weekend before Christmas. It was also the weekend before Mom and I arrived. Grandpa said that Grandma was excited and nervous about meeting us for the first time. She was also sad because by this time she had found out that my Dad was the only one who would not make it home for Christmas this year.

That weekend was also the weekend that gifts mysteriously appeared under the tree. Grandma said that always seemed to happen the weekend her children went to Massachusetts to visit the MacInnis side of the family. Grandma also wrapped my present up real fancy! It was so pretty that I didn't have the heart to tell her I could see through the wrapping.

Uncle Shawn returned Sunday afternoon with Aunt Samantha! She was so happy to see them she had to have a picture taken. Somehow, my Dad got in the picture too. How did he do that??? I thought he was in Japan!

Golden Christmas Plus... Family Portrait???

All was set now for Mom's and my arrival. That would not be until Tuesday though, and Grandpa said Grandma got more anxious as the time drew closer.
